A Pulp Mill was concerned with the structural integrity of one of their bleach reactors. The Silo’s funnel is made of concrete and lined with a tile to protect the concrete from the alkaline bleach.

The busy pulp mill shuts down for maintenance for just three weeks every year, during this time they wanted to investigate whether there was any voiding in the concrete funnel as a result of the bleach.

GeoScan performed a survey across four sections of the inside of the reactor, using an Ultrasonic Pulse Echo and High frequency bespoke Ground Penetrating Radar.

With the results GeoScan were able to non-destructively and accurately map areas of suspected voiding in the reactor walls.
With such a small time frame each year, this kind of preventative investigation is crucial in order keep the busy pulp mill active.
