X-Radar Pre-Design Concrete Survey with 3D Laser Scanning
Anchor locations for the boards were identified in order to avoid in slab cooling lines
The report enabled the designers to make informed decisions without compromising an existing electrical line
“This service provides designers, architects, contractors and engineers with all the details regarding the concrete slab they require to make informed, calculated decisions." Problem: A curling rink was planned to be turned into an ice-hockey rink in British Columbia, Canada. The designers faced two challenges. The first was how to avoid the in-slab cooling lines for the rink when mounting the boards to the ice rink. The second was avoiding in-slab electrical lines when building the infrastructure that a hockey rink needs (penalty boxes etc..)
Solution: GeoScan arrived on site and carried out our comprehensive X-Radar concrete scanning survey of the ice rink. GeoScan identified areas within the ice rink to anchor without hitting the cooling lines. Select areas around the rink were also surveyed, and all in-slab electrical lines and steel reinforcement was mapped.
The survey marks were then surveyed with a 3D laser scanner which enabled GeoScan technicians to create a detailed, fully-scaled and annotated AutoCAD drawings of the x-radar survey. Results were produced and sent directly to the designers’ office.
A 3D laser scan of the entire ice rink was produced
Combining X-Radar Survey marks with 3D laser scanning
A 3D Laser Scanner was used to capture the X-Radar Concrete Scanning marks
All steel reinforcement (green) and electrical conduits (red) were mapped with precision
The project ensured that no in-slab cooling lines for the rink was damaged
